How to create a proper FDA label
A comprehensive, step-by-step guide to utilizing our USDA-integrated interface for perfectly formatted, compliant nutritional panels.
1. Define the Serving Size
Start by establishing the serving size and servings per container. The FDA requires serving sizes to be represented in common household measures (like cups, tablespoons, or pieces) followed by the metric equivalent in grams (g) or milliliters (mL).
2. Search USDA Database
In the workspace, use the ingredient search bar to query the USDA FoodData Central. For best results, use generic, unbranded terms (e.g., "Wheat flour", "Granulated sugar", "Butter"). Add the ingredient to your recipe formulation.
3. Input Quantities
Define how much of each ingredient goes into a single serving. Note: You should scale your recipe down to the single serving level before inputting, or do the math locally, as the tool aggregates values per serving.
4. Export and Print
The live preview instantly reflects FDA mandatory rounding acts. Once you've verified the formulation, use the "Download PDF" button or screen-capture the panel to send it straight to your label printer.
